In late Oct, the Dayspring Emergency on call technicians received an after hour call from a local health club that had experienced flooding due to a broken sprinkler head. The Dayspring technicians were informed that the sprinkler which had broken was located within the men's locker room dry sauna. The sauna had gotten to hot and subsequently broke/set off the sprinkler which in turn flooded the entire men’s bathroom/locker room area, a large utility closet, and the majority of the adjacent free weight area. When Dayspring arrived on site, the technicians proceeded to move the exercise equipment, extracted the standing water from the carpets and tile flooring within the space, and set up drying equipment.
Drying the wall assemblies presented some challenge, due to the metal framed construction method used when building the facility. It was determined that the baseplate was a u-shaped metal track that was holding standing water which would need to be removed. In order to remove the liquid water that was trapped inside the wall cavity, the Dayspring Technicians conducted some light demolition by removing some sheetrock in accessible areas. In areas where it was not conducive or cost effected to remove( wall/locker assemblies or tile shower surround), hundreds of small holes were drilled and a special piece of drying equipment was used to effectively drive dehumidified air into the wall cavity to expedite the drying process.
By avoiding major demolition and implementing a thoughtful but effective restoration strategy, Dayspring Restoration was able to save the customer thousands of dollars in potential construction costs as well as minimized the impact on the clients business.
