The fire restoration of this 19th Century "Historical Place", after a near fatal bout with a propane gas fire back in March, has earned all the restoration awards given out at this year's Builder Award Ceremony. This ceremony launched the 21st Annual Parade of Homes & Remodeling Tour, recognizing excellence in remodeling and restoration in the industry. The judges of the competition are expert builders, designers and craftsmen from across Montana.
The experts at Dayspring Restoration of Missoula, MT, had to restore the inside of the home after it was completely smoke damaged, while much of the upstairs and southwest corner of the home had experienced fire damage.
Dayspring found themselves at the cusp of a challenging and detailed fire restoration process of more than just a historic gem, but also a family's livelihood. The home had already been through a long and strenuous restoration process, and yet another, though less strenuous and time-consuming, was about to unfold.
The home was built in 1899 by William J. Kendall and later inhabited for many years by one of the first professors at the University of Montana, Frederick C. Scheuch. The home's condition began to deteriorate as Scheuch retired and moved away in 1936. Although nearly a half a decade had passed, the home was finally being obtained by numerous owners all contributing to the home's preservation.
Fire-Restored Building Becomes Historical Landmark
After the hard work and devotion of these owners, the City of Missoula granted the home with a preservation award in 2000, notably two years after Mark and Suzie Estep completed the home's restoration. Along with this honor, it also achieved local, state, and national recognition as a "Historical Place."
Mark and Suzie Estep were invaluable to the recent upheaval of the Regal Queen. Their passion for the home's historical conservation made for creative solutions to a variety of structural and environmental issues. Mark and Suzie Estep took advantage of this seemingly destructive event and used it to dramatically increase their home's energy efficiency by working with Dr. Energy Saver. Together, they worked to strategize a plan to reduce the wasted energy that is all too common amongst historic properties.
The Regal Queen Anne has been restored it to its rightful place as Missoula's Southside historic gem. An achievement credited Dr. Energy Saver in Missoula for their innovation and state-of-the-art technology in collaboration with Dayspring Restoration's fire restoration process.
